A lot of people don’t have the time to make it out to the gym multiple times per week. Either they’re busy with school or work, or they’ve got families to take care of. Perhaps it’s the case that they simply can’t justify the cost of fitness equipment, or the expense of the gym membership itself. If this sounds like you, don’t fret. If you have a spark of dedication within you, it’s still possible to get fantastic fitness results in the privacy of your own house or apartment, and using nothing other than your own body weight for resistance.
You can’t discount the classics like push ups, sit ups, and squats. There are a dozen different variations on each, so it’s possible to specifically target many different major muscle groups using the same, simple motions. Each can be just as challenging as the last. You can do diamond push ups for your triceps, which are done with your hands closer together than usual. You can also do them with your hands farther apart, which puts more of the work load on your chest muscles. Many of these modifications apply to other compound movements with just as much effectiveness.
A quick internet search will reveal many ancient versions of body weight exercises, many of them designed with their own purposes. Hindu squats and Hindu push ups are both fantastic for the quads, and shoulder muscles, respectively.
These are just a few prime examples, out of literally hundreds it’s possible to choose from. As long as you have some common sense about good form and safety, the internet can provide all of the information you need to get a full body work out without ever having to leave home. All you need is a little creativity, and understanding of your own personal limits.
